● Summary of Performance:
Dostoevsky's novel <Crime and Punishment> is adapted with a focus on Raskoliniko's psychology. Therefore, the plot of this work follows the monologue and psychology of the main character, Raskolnikov.
This work focuses on the fierce conflict and agony between the utilitarian beliefs called spirit of the times and the conscience felt as a human being.
● Synopsis
One day, Raskolnikov, who had stopped studying at university due to poverty, meets retired official Marmeladov at a tavern and hears a story about his daughter Sonya, who became a prostitute to support her family.
Because of his poverty, he leaves his watch and goes to a pawn shop to borrow money. Raskolnikov defines the old woman, a vicious businessman, as a‘social evil’ who exploits even his own younger sister. He kills the old woman with an ax in the belief that it is a social good to kill one evil businessman and save many good people.
After his murder, he is surrounded by pain and agony, feeling disconnected from the world. In the end, he feels the urge to tell Sonya everything because he can't bear it...
